Andrew Stunell MP & Lisa Smart, Prospective MP for Hazel Grove, celebrate National Apprenticeship Week with the news that well over 10,000 apprenticeships have been created in Stockport since 2010, and encourage more young people to get involved.

Commenting Lisa Smart, Prospective MP for Hazel Grove, said –

“Stockport caught on very early how beneficial apprenticeships can be, not just for young people but for businesses too.  We’ve seen well over 10,000 apprenticeships created here in Stockport since 2010 and what’s even more good news is that we are seeing more and more young women taking up these positions.”

“National Apprenticeship Week is another great way to promote the benefits of apprenticeships and I encourage any young person looking for a way to earn and learn to tune into apprenticeships to see if it is for them.  I hired my own apprentice, Conor, over a year ago now and he’s a great addition to the team!”

Nationally 2.1 million apprenticeships have been created since 2010, more than 1 million of these apprenticeships have been undertaken by women and the number of women taking up STEM apprenticeships has nearly doubled since 2009/10.

National Apprenticeship Week 2015 is all about getting more small businesses to take on apprentices, promoting the range and breadth of apprenticeships on offer, including those at Higher level and within blue chip companies, celebrating apprenticeships and the level of success that learners can achieve.

Andrew Stunell MP said –

“The benefits of apprenticeships are clear - they help the firms that employ apprentices to be more productive and innovative, they boost the economy, and they give people the skills they need to get on in the world of work.

“Apprenticeship Week gives us an opportunity to recognise the amazing achievements of these apprentices. It is also the chance to thank the thousands of British employers giving them this opportunity to earn and learn, and to inspire more young people, businesses and organisations to get involved.”

“Liberal Democrats in government are working hard to ensure Britain’s economy has the skills it needs for the future, with over 1,000 businesses, of all sizes and sectors helping to design top-quality Apprenticeships as part of our Trailblazer scheme.”
