Lisa Smart, Prospective MP for Hazel Grove, & Andrew Stunell MP visited proud parents to baby twins, conceived on IVF, after their battle against Stockport IVF rules was successful.
Kellie & Gareth Evans from Bredbury were told by their GP that they would need IVF to conceive, but the rules that were in place then in Stockport meant that they were not entitled to receive any from the NHS.
“We were heartbroken” says Kellie.
“We’d been trying for a while and it seemed like we were stuck. I’d heard all the things everyone says about politicians but a friend of mine pointed me to the Liberal Democrats because he said they were different and would help us.”
“I wasn’t sure about it, but it was the last chance so I wrote to Andrew Stunell our local MP. Andrew was lovely, he’s a father himself and he really wanted to help.”
After a few letters, phone-calls and meetings Andrew and his team found a way to bring the
Stockport rules on IVF treatments in line with other areas in the country. The extra round of IVF worked and Kellie found out she was expecting twins. The twins, Grace and Gabriel, were born at Stepping Hill Hospital last December.
Commenting Lisa Smart, Prospective MP for Hazel Grove said –
“I was elated when I heard. Andrew worked so hard on the case and it’s always fantastic news when one of us gets a big win like that for local people.”
“Now we just need to do the rest of the job and make sure Kellie, Gareth and the family, and others like them, get the best start in Life,” says Lisa. “I want to be our MP so I can help make that happen.”
Kellie, mum of two said –
“Because local Liberal Democrats like Andrew Stunell and Lisa Smart took up the case for us my husband and I were able to get our I.V.F. treatment from Care. We now have twins, Grace and Gabriel - they’re wonderful and we love them more than anything.”
“We couldn’t be happier” adds new father of two Gareth, “and I’m delighted that this
means couples in Stockport can now get IVF treatment on the NHS when they need it.”
“Yes we’ll be backing Lisa, because we need another MP with the experience to get results from big organisations, like Andrew Stunell.”
