Lisa Smart, the Prospective Liberal Democrat MP for Hazel Grove, recently hosted the Minister of State for Transport, Baroness Susan Kramer, in the Constituency. The Minister had visited in order to hear for herself about Lisa and the Liberal Democrats’ campaign for the next phase of the much-needed Hazel Grove Bypass.
Baroness Kramer said: ”I am delighted that we have clearance for Phase One of the A555, and I am absolutely clear, having spoken with Lisa, that the next priority for local residents like her is Phase Two - connecting Phase One at the A6 to the M60 at Junction 25.”
Lisa Smart and Andrew Stunell MP have successfully campaigned to help deliver the A555 – even though successive Labour and Tory Governments over the last 80 years had ignored the plans. Lisa Smart commented: “It has taken Liberal Democrats in government to get this moving. The Liberal Democrats are delivering for Hazel Grove Constituency.”
Lisa Smart and Andrew Stunell MP are working hard on behalf of local people to campaign for Part 2 of the road. This will link Hazel Grove to Junction 25 in Bredbury and take traffic out of Hazel Grove, Dan Bank and Bredbury. Lisa said: “The new road link will mean that the big lorries from quarries in the Peak District will be taken off our small, local roads. The environmental, economic, health and wellbeing benefits of not having people sitting in traffic are enormous.”
Liberal Democrats on Transport for Greater Manchester have also fought successfully for more trains and carriages on local rail lines to help tackle the traffic.
